Before you dismiss this as just a sour grapes commentary from a guy who worked for nearly 25 years in San Diego radio…well, actually, go ahead and dismiss it, because I am bitter and pissed, and this is partially sour grapes. So what? At least I know what I’m talking about.

Garcia’s Mercado

Garcia’s, tucked in between two trailer parks in East El Cajon ( near De La Fuente Cadillac ), has been around for a few years in it’s current location, but when I first visited 20 years ago, it was across the street next to a locksmith shop in a crowded hole-in-the-wall that was almost always packed on the weekends.

Kalinka European Deli

This family run hole-in-the-wall, located in a small strip mall near the train station in Solana Beach, is part deli, part restaurant, and part grocery store. Specializing in killer deli sandwiches, Kalinka’s vast meat and cheese selection is largely Russian, with a big emphasis on salamis, both hard and soft.
